What a cool article!!! I loved this.
The writer in me loves to play with fonts. My favorites are serifs, especially the ones you mentioned. I prefer Georgia and Garamond. They "speak to me" somehow.
I love how you described the various personalities of the fonts. So perfect.
Thank you for delving into this. It seems too few people consider this.
It's SO much easier to experiment with fonts nowadays!
I inherited my grandfather's Hermes 3000 manual typewriter--eons ago, and I loved using it before personal computers became available--it was unique among most typewriters. It used a beautiful script font, which was great for my letter-writing habit of the day. I loved that old machine.
Then, there was the IBM Selectric electric typewriter (in the 1970s) my Dad "liberated" from an old military salvage sale. I used it all through high school for reports. It had an interchangeable ball "element" for changing fonts. What memories!
